Currently, Leanne is developing a range of work that conveys nonsensical themes, often playing upon narratives from iconic children’s literature and sinister morality tales of the legendary Brothers Grimm. The work frequently contains notions that play upon feelings of escapism Leanne experienced as a child during reading and play. These works convey the transitory nature of childhood by capturing those thoughts and moments which are so precious, yet fleeting from an adult’s perspective.
Leanne is influenced by Sigmar Poke’s early works and therefore applies mid-20th Century inspired fabrics but adds her own twist by incorporating other more contemporary found objects. Amalgamating these processes with innovative stencilling methods juxtaposed with Leanne’s traditional stylized drawing produces her own identity within the works.
Principally, Leanne wishes to create a narrative of thematic tension conflicting between what is drawn by her hand and what is created aesthetically by using found materials.
