My paintings and drawings are both figurative and expressive. They are often concerned with ambiguous creatures and beings from my imagination, inspired by books or media cuttings of animals, people, moments from everyday life. Then a process of hectic mark making consumes early figurative elements. I create layers of paint working in both oil and acrylic. This takes me on an expressive journey. I feel there is a strong sense of dualism within my work, areas of abstract abundance and challenging figurative elements, creating an ambiguous and tentative nature within the painting.
Having been inspired by the work of post-war Germans and American Abstract Expressionists and Neo Figurative Expressionism. In the same vein I hope my paintings and drawings evoke an emotional response in the viewer.
I am also passionate about fashion design and create fashion illustrations as well as recently exploring working with textiles.
